Fondation Thalie: Open call for applications 2023, Visual arts and creative writing research residency
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Deadline: 15 November 2022
If you are in the field of creating, are living outside of Belgium, and you would like to spend some time researching and sharing it in an inspiring house, the Fondation Thalie offers a place of work in an intimate and domestic space in Brussels. The aim of the residency is to support and accompany a reflexive way of thinking and artistic practices that give way to new imaginaries regarding the green transition.
Stay
The residency at the Foundation lasts two months. It is a time for research. The resident will benefit from an artistic accompaniment that will allow him/her to detail the projects in progress and also to discover the Belgian creative scene through a program of visits to places and professional meetings.
Restitution
Open to the public, the restitution will show the result of the research carried out during the residency. It will be designed by the resident with the residency coordinator. The Foundation encourages the residents to allow for times of exchange with the public and professionals, in the form of workshops, readings, etc.
General Presentation
The Fondation Thalie‘s mission is to support contemporary creation as a lever for action, exchange and transmission. It promotes dialogue between disciplines and is particularly interested in
revitalizing the work of crafts in today’s artistic practices.
The Foundation works to defend attention to know-how, the place of women in the field of art history, as well as artistic practices conscious of climate change (design and production questioning planetary limits, bio-sourced materials…).
The Foundation organizes two annual exhibitions, artistic awareness workshops and a program of events and podcasts “Creators facing climate Emergency”. The Foundation also publishes contemporary poetry dedicated to ecology.
The House
Not far from Avenue Louise and the Ixelles ponds, in the heart of the gallery district, the house, the headquarters of the Foundation, was built in 1924 by the architect Jean Hendricks. It has been entirely renovated to accommodate its activities by the duo Vanden Eeckhoudt – Creyf architects, in a contemporary style, while retaining its modernist spirit. In addition to the exhibition and work spaces, it has a library, four bedrooms and a large kitchen-dining room-terrace area.
