When François Rochon founded the Giverny Capital wealth management firm in 1998, he named it after Claude Monet’s gardens in Giverny, that he visited during a trip to France in 1990. It was a visit that would have a decisive impact on his future involvement in the art world: he began to dream of creating an art venue that could foster a similar balance between contemplation and disruption.

The Giverny Collection

Art as a testament of our times and as a path to dreaming of possible futures; art as an echo of the world, shining a light upon it”. This is the vision at the heart of the Giverny Capital Collection. Comprises of more than 800 works by nearly 200 artists, the collection includes paintings, sculptures, videos, photographs, sound and light works, installations and conceptual art.

To this day, the collection stands out for its heightened attention to artists from Québec and Canada such as Jeff Wall, David Altmejd, Lynne Cohen, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Manuel Mathieu, Pierre Dorion and Marc Séguin while major additions from internationally-renowned artists are offering a broad panorama of the contemporary art world with works as varied as Four colors four words by Josef Kosuth; The Sleepers by Bill Viola; Turbulent by Shirin Neshat; Death is elsewhere by Ragnar Kjartansson; Riot II by Leon Golub; 21 Backs by Magdalena Abakanowicz ; Dead Dad by Ron Mueck; and the acclaimed Refusal of Time by William Kentridge.

This space showcases the works of 55 artists such as Richard Long, Ron Terada, Sophie Calle, Wanda Koop, Julia Dault, David Simpson, Doris Salcedo, Anne Truitt, Roni Horn and Olafur Eliasson.
