MAPFRE is driven by the desire to disseminate, to make available to society a cultural legacy gathered over three decades. With our collections we have sought to give drawing the importance it deserves and to position photography at the highest levels of artistic disciplines. We support artists of the current scene and promote the knowledge of the artistic languages of the 20th century all over the world. To this day, our collection continues to be added to on a daily basis, with our sights set on new aesthetic proposals.
The collection of 20th century drawings brings together numerous works by some of the most important artists and illustrators of the 20th century. Established names of the European avant-garde: Matisse, Schiele, Degas, Rodin, Picabia and Klimt, prestigious Spanish signatures: Picasso, Miró, Gutiérrez Solana, Regoyos, Chillida and Vázquez Díaz, as well as an important presence of Penagos - the Spanish art deco illustrator par excellence - are some of the decisive authors. Years later, the drawing collection was enriched with the donation of the García Viñolas collection, which contributed 19th and 20th century artists such as Fortuny, Pinazo, Barjola and Viola.
