The Walter A. Bechtler Foundation was set up in 1955 by the Zolliker engineer Walter A. Bechtler (1905–1994). W. Bechtler had founded Luwa AG 20 years earlier, which specialized in ventilation and heating technology and later merged with Ustermer Zellweger AG to form the Zellweger Luwa Group. As an art collector, Walter A. Bechtler wanted to make the visual arts, in particular, access to a wider audience. His foundation, therefore, buys works of art and tries to ensure that these can be displayed on public land, especially in large communities and cities. Rudolf Bechtler (President) and Thomas W. Bechtler are represented on the Board of Trustees. All projects are independently evaluated and implemented by the foundation. Applications will not be processed.
